What I Do at the Airport

A behind-the-scenes blog from someone who helps keep things running at CMH, LCK, and TZR.

Why I Made This Page

When people ask me what I do at the airport, I usually joke and say, “I don’t really know.”

But that’s not totally true.
The real answer is… it’s a lot.

I work in airfield operations, which means on any given day, I could be:

  • Inspecting runways and taxiways for safety

  • Writing NOTAMs (Notices to Air Missions)

  • Coordinating with the FAA Tower and airlines

  • Handling emergencies or aircraft alerts

  • Checking lighting, fences, signs, snow piles, fuel spills, animal hazards, you name it

  • Supporting Part 139 compliance

  • Helping with everything from snow removal to bird strike investigations

  • And much much more

It’s a job where no two days are the same, and most of the people outside (and honestly, even inside) the airport have no idea what we actually do.

So, I built this page for two reasons:

  1. To explain what my job actually is — for friends, family, curious travelers, and anyone who's ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes at the airport.

  2. To reflect and grow — this job has so many moving parts, and I’m learning more every day. This blog is part of my own design cycle — a space to observe, reflect, adjust, and share what I’m learning in the field.
